Galway Senator Niall Ó Brolcháin, has welcomed an innovative pilot project being launched this morning at the Claddagh National School by Health Minister, Mary Harney.
The project will allow the school to employ a speech therapist for a two year period and, if successful, could be rolled out across the country.
“This is fantastic for Galway and for the Claddagh National School,” said Senator Ó Brolcháin.
“Many parents find it difficult to secure speech therapy services for their children and this project will allow the school to provide this essential service.”
“It is the first time for this new initiative, which I have lobbied intensely for, in co-operation with School Principal, Brendan Forde and Galway Deputy, Noel Grealish.”
“The funding will be provided by the Department of Health and will provide excellent value for money.”
“Speech therapy services will now be accessible to the parents and it is an excellent example of early intervention in education.”
“I warmly welcome this initiative and it is thanks to the hard work of all involved,” concluded Senator Ó Brolcháin.
