Equality: Progress in the endless struggle for equality is a measure of the success of our society. For example, implementation of the EPSEN act and progress towards a rights based approach to disability would allow the requirements of disabled people to be considered at all stages of planning and policy development.
Ecology: Climate change and peak oil haven’t gone away. Nor have the constant threats of pollution to our natural environment.
Economy: The collapse of the building boom and the banking sector has wreaked havoc on our economy. The Euro is looking increasingly unstable and oil prices are spiralling out of control. However, our high tech sector and the green economy can provide many new jobs.
Energy: While wind energy has doubled in the last 3 years, we are still hugely dependent on imports of oil and gas. Our potential for becoming self sufficient in renewable energy (wind, ocean, hydro, solar, biomass, etc.) is enormous, as is our potential to reduce our energy bills by insulation and innovation.
Education: In order to ensure a brighter future for our children, we need to prioritise investment in education at all levels from primary to research and development.
